Economy & Relocalization
- We support an ecological approach to economic security, in which economic enterprises are a compatible, integrated part of local communities, with increased emphasis on local cycles of production, consumption, and recycling.
- We support legislation that would return any state-owned land declared to be surplus to local communities to be used for affordable housing, local agriculture, public open space, or enhanced community sustainability.
- We oppose attempts to privatize government and disempower local communities, such as the so-called “expedited permitting” measures and the Chapter 40T legislation which would create developer-controlled political subdivisions of the Commonwealth.
- We support programs to create community-based green jobs in Massachusetts in areas such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable agriculture, public transportation, and recycling.
- We support the preservation of agriculture in Massachusetts, the expansion of sustainable community-based agriculture and urban agriculture, and the pursuit of food security by increasing the fraction of food that is locally grown.
